Sharon Lightner, Ph.D., CPA Director, School of Accountancy, San Diego State University

Sharon Lightner is the director of the School of Accountancy and an associate professor in the department. She teaches financial accounting at the graduate and undergraduate level. She is a three-time recipient of the Most Outstanding Faculty Award in the School of Accountancy and has been selected the Most Influential Professor by the Most Outstanding Accounting Student on three separate occasions. She currently serves as faculty advisor to MSA students entering the professional track. Sharon also serves as faculty advisor to Beta Alpha Psi. She received an Aztec Achievement Award at SDSU for the outstanding faculty advisor on campus and was selected as one of the six Beta Alpha Psi faculty advisors nationwide to receive a 1995-1996 Arthur Andersen Richard E. Claire Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award.

She is committed to utilizing technology in the learning process. She has spearheaded the use of collaborative software in the accounting curriculum. She was a recipient of the AICPA/AAA Collaboration Award for her development of an international accounting class that was offered in real-time to students in four countries. She has shared her applications of technology via numerous presentations and publications.

Her degrees include a bachelor of science from the University of Montana, a master of science from San Diego State University, and a doctor of philosophy from the University of Oregon. She has published in Journal of Accounting Education, Journal of Accountancy, Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory, and The Practical Accountant.



Janeen Jensen, CPA
Financial Consultant

Janeen Jensen has served a variety of executive roles throughout the San Diego hospitality industry since 1984. Currently, she serves as a financial consultant for both Evans Hotels and Rancho La Puerta Fitness Resort & Spa. Previously, she was the corporate controller (1994-2005) for Evans Hotels where she oversaw the entire resort hotels complex, including implementation of an internal audit department, as well as the construction accounting for the new $70 million Torrey Pines Lodge.

She has extensive knowledge in both corporate accounting and partnership taxation and is an accomplished administrator. Other roles include CFO of The Capener Company, an advertising, marketing and public relations company, and public accountant with Laventhol & Horwath. Janeen received her bachelor of science in accounting from San Diego State University.
